Red Wings get major Patrick Kane update amid rumors

Patrick Kane is among the top unrestricted free agents available this offseason with many wondering what destination the star forward will land.

According to Chris Johnston, Kane is leaning towards staying exactly where he is in Detroit and resigning. This would support the statements that both Kane and Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman alluded to in Detroit's end of season media interviews.

We'll see what the value and term of the contract look like, but for Patrick Kane this move would make sense. The 36 year old has found a home in Detroit where he has felt comfortable. Kane has mentioned the importance of his family in the career decision making process and his son PKIII loves the city. Not to mention, the chemistry Patrick continues to show with former running mate in Chicago Alex DeBrincat is undeniable.

Patrick Kane recorded 21 goals and 38 assists for 59 points in 72 games last season in his second year with Detroit. Overall, he has produced 41 goals and 65 assists for 106 points in 122 games during his tenure in Motown.

Kane is on the precipice of passing some major milestones next season including 500 goals; he is 8 away with 492. And he has the opportunity to become the all time leader among American born players in point production; he is 32 away from Mike Modano.

Kane will be expected to play a key role in aiding the Wings push to return to the playoffs next year. The Original 6 franchise has not made the postseason since 2016, with fans starting to lose patience with the "Yzerplan."
