This past offseason, the Boston Red Sox made a blockbuster trade, acquiring Chicago White Sox star pitcher Garrett Crochet.
Crochet has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season and is a key reason why the Red Sox are two games over .500.
Boston has shown a tendency to bring in veteran pitchers during the offseason, and Crochet wasn't the only pitcher the team acquired.
The Red Sox signed Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Walker Buehler and added one of the best closers in the history of Major League Baseball, Aroldis Chapman.
Boston will likely try to sign another free-agent pitcher this upcoming offseason, given their track record. Drew Koch from Fansided suggests that the team should consider signing Texas Rangers starter Tyler Mahle.

"If you're looking for a surprise arm that Boston could (and should) pursue this winter, it's Tyler Mahle," Koch wrote. "After fully recovering from Tommy John surgery, the Texas Rangers' hurler is putting up All-Star numbers in 2025. Much like the aforementioned Nick Martinez, Mahle relies on weak contact and an ability to mix and match his pitches."
Mahle is in the final year of his two-year, $22 million deal and would be a nice fit for the Red Sox.
If Boston is looking to get back to the postseason next year, then adding Mahle could be a great addition to the roster.
