The Boston Red Sox season has been as ugly as anybody could have imagined it, though there still have been some impressive parts throughout the year.
At the very least, some guys are still playing or have started to play at a very high level, and one of them, who is continuing to be one of the best we've ever seen, is closer Aroldis Chapman. It's almost ridiculous to think that Chapman is 38 years old and is seemingly only getting better.
The big left-hander has been the best closer in baseball over the past year or so, and deserves all the respect that he's getting. He currently owns a 0.54 ERA with 11 saves, 22 strikeouts, and seven walks in 16.2 innings.
Chapman is also making some history along the way, as he recently moved into 10th place all-time on the saves leaderboard. He's now only a dozen away from tying Dennis Eckersley, one of the greatest closers of all time, to break that top-10 mark.
“Aroldis Chapman has moved into 10th place on the all-time saves leaderboard! He’s 12 saves away from tying Dennis Eckersley for the 9th most in MLB history,” Just Baseball wrote.
If we're going based on the player alone, Chapman is definitely worthy of being a Hall of Famer.
It's tough to say that he's going to certainly end up in the Hall of Fame, as baseball voters can be a bit strange with that stuff. However, as long as he continues to move up this list, and it doesn't seem like he's going to slow down anytime soon, there's no reason to think he won't end up with a plaque in Cooperstown eventually.
