Red Sox reportedly linked to next projected $500 million free agent

The Boston Red Sox were just involved in the biggest blockbuster trade of the season, sending Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, and now have space to sign a big name this offseason in free agency.

After winning five games in a row and three straight series, the Red Sox traded away their biggest star in a surprise trade. At 39-37, Boston is in the playoff race for a Wild Card spot, but now has the money to target one of the biggest free agents this upcoming offseason in Kyle Tucker.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman mentioned that the Red Sox could be a potential suitor for Tucker this offseason.

"Yeah, I'm glad you mentioned the Red Sox," Heyman said. "That is a possibility certainly. This guy is going to be a free agent at this point. We thought maybe there would be some discussions, maybe they tried and it didn't work. The Cubs, that's a big market team and they are doing well. They need to give it a try."

"That said, he's a free agent, he's only been there a year and there are going to be other teams. Never count out the San Francisco Giants at this point, they look like an aggressive team. The Red Sox have a lot of outfielders but we have heard of (outfielder Jarren) Duran possibly on the market. They are a possibility as well because they really have to do something to make up for (Rafael) Devers."

Tucker is bound to fetch a massive contract this offseason, projected to be over $500 million according to Spotrac. The three-time All-Star is slashing .284/.395/.908 this season with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs, and has helped the Chicago Cubs become one of the best teams in the league. The 28-year-old would be a great option to replace Devers' impact in the offense.
