The Boston Red Sox need pitching. That’s pretty well known, for both their bullpen and starting rotation. WHile they have the money to sign free agents, they also have the assets to trade. This proposed trade would bring Seattle Mariners’ multiple-time All-Star ace Luis Castillo to Boston for the rest of his contract, for the Sox’s DH, Masataka Yoshida.
Last season, Castillo started 30 games, obtained a record of 10-11, with a 3.64 ERA and 175 strikeouts. Yoshida played in 108 games, slashing .280/.349/.415/.765 with 10 homers and 21 doubles.
This trade would be a win-win. Boston needs pitching, and Seattle needs hitting. What also sweetens the pot for Seattle is they get five and a half million dollars back per year.
Yoshida’s contract is only three years, $55.8 million, and Castillo’s is three years, $72.45 million. That comes out to $18.6 million per year for Yoshida, and $24.15 million per year for Castillo.
Castillo would be a great number three in the rotation for the Sox. As long as they go out and get their two stud aces, and have Castillo as their three, along with Tanner Houck and Brayan Bello as the four and five, they would arguably have one of the best rotations in baseball.
A contract swap trade between Luis Castillo and Masataka Yoshida (among others) would feed families.
• Castillo: 3/$72.45m ($24.15m AAV) + $25m opt
• Yoshida: 3/$55.8m ($18.6m AAV)
A mutually beneficial deal for both sides we could see. I’d absolutely love Castillo as a SP3. https://t.co/8Tp21KGUU9
