Red Sox predicted to trade for $3 million Royals All-Star pitcher

The Boston Red Sox have been hot since the Rafael Devers trade. A deal that seemed so lopsided in favor of the San Francisco Giants has not turned out as such.

The Red Sox are now 54-48 and hold the third American League Wild Card spot. They also are still within striking distance in the AL East.

They have some needs to address leading up to the trade deadline. They have holes in the starting rotation, the bullpen, and at first base.

Steve Perrault of Underdog Fantasy recently predicted where certain players would end up. He predicted that the Red Sox would grab Kris Bubic from the Kansas City Royals.

"I think he would be ready to play for a competitor," Perrault said. "I think a lot of Royals fans would say they're out of it. They're 5 1/2 games back of the last Wild Card spot."

Bubic has put together a very strong season in Kansas City. He is 8-6 with a 2.38 ERA in 19 starts and he has struck out 115 batters over 113 2/3 innings pitched while also posting a 3.7 WAR.

The cost to acquire Bubic will be significant. The Royals will demand a hefty return. However, Boston has a strong farm system and could spare a few top prospects in order to get the deal done.

The Red Sox could then have a deadly one-two punch in their rotation with Bubic slotting next to Garrett Crochet. Facing Boston in the postseason would be no easy task.

But the Red Sox have a logjam of position players and could stand to clear it a bit. Perhaps the Royals show interest in either Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu.

We'll see how the Red Sox approach the deadline.
