The Boston Red Sox might be facing the departure of one of their newest superstars in Alex Bregman, who has an opt-out this offseason. In the event that he does leave, the Sox will have to find a replacement.
If the Sox want to find a cheap replacement, Fansided’s Stephen Parello has an interesting reunion that can work for the Sox; Former Sox No. 1 overall prospect, Yoan Moncada.

“Should the Red Sox lose Bregman, but not want to block Mayer at the hot corner long-term, Moncada could make sense as a placeholder with the understanding that Mayer will still get ample opportunity to wrestle the starting job away, thanks to the inevitable injury or two. This would be the "hedging their bets" option, and a clear drop off from Bregman, but also a pathway that could work out in both the short and long term,” Parello wrote.
Moncada has had a weird season this year. He’s only played 81 games this year due to various injuries, but it's been his best year since 2019, slashing .237/.338/.452/.790 with 12 home runs and 35 RBI.

Moncada would be the cheapest and short-term option if Bregman leaves, as it keeps the most money in Boston’s pocket to spend elsewhere, and gives Marcelo Mayer a quick route to third base.
Hopefully, Bregman stays and this doesn’t have to be considered. However, if he does walk, then this could be considered.
