The Los Angeles Angels held on to shortstop Zach Neto at the trade deadline.
Evidently, the AL West club did not feel that the offers for Neto met their asking price, per FanSided's Robert Murray.
Though Los Angeles' asking price was likely high. Neto is on pace for his third consecutive 20-20 season while playing well below-average defense at shortstop.
"What was said about [Reid] Detmers above applies for Neto: there was massive interest in Neto, the Angels listened, but no team met the very high asking price," Murray wrote Tuesday.
The Boston Red Sox were rumored to be one of the contending clubs with interest in Neto at the deadline. Murray added that the AL East organization could reengage with the Angels this offseason.
"The Angels are once again in position to listen on Neto again in the winter, and the teams that make sense include the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays and many others," Murray wrote. "At 25 and not a free agent until 2030, he’s already hit 81 homers and 238 RBI in four major-league seasons while establishing himself as a franchise shortstop. He’d arguably be the best player on the market."

The Angels are going nowhere fast, preparing to miss the postseason for the 12th consecutive season.
Unless the front office plans to offer Neto a contract extension in the near future, trading him this winter may be what's best for the Angels.
As Murray mentioned, the Red Sox and Phillies could be two teams to keep an eye on in the Neto sweepstakes.
