MLB fans are waiting for ESPN insider Jeff Passan to drop the news of a big trade, like a Tarik Skubal deal.
On Monday evening, they had to settle for a trade between the Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals involving two guys who have yet to even reach the major leagues.
The Red Sox pick up left-handed pitcher Jake Bennett from the Nats.
The Nationals get right-handed pitcher Luis Perales in return.
Bennett was a second-round pick by the Nationals in 2022 out of the University of Oklahoma.
A 6-foot-6 lefty who is 25 years old, Bennett has reached Double-A as a starting pitcher.
In 2025, Bennett had a 2.56 ERA in 10 appearances at Double-A Harrisburg. He also was thought highly enough of to pitch in the Arizona Fall League.

Perales is a 6-foot-1, 22-year old right-hander.
He made it up to Triple-A Worcester this season, but missed almost the entire year with injury.
Perales did return to pitch in the Arizona Fall League, as well, but had a 10.32 ERA there in six outings.
It seems Bennett is a little safer of a prospect as a big lefty with a solid minor league track record.
The smaller, younger Perales appears to be more of an upside play.
Trades like this sometimes never amount to much, if neither player really makes it. But if one does and the other doesn't, it could be a big outcome for the Red Sox and Nationals, who woke up on a Monday in December and wanted to make a deal.
