Red Sox manager Alex Cora breaks silence after not speaking to Rafael Devers last series

The Boston Red Sox traded Rafael Devers last week, and this weekend had to face him and his new team, the San Francisco Giants. Alex Cora revealed that he and Devers did not speak.

The Red Sox lost two out of three games against Devers and the Giants. They are now 40-39 and a half games out of a wild card spot in the American League. Tension between Devers and the organization was evident in the months leading up to the trade, but Devers was seen talking to his former teammates before the games. However, he did not speak with Cora.

"At one point, we’ll catch up," Cora said, according to the Boston Globe's Time Healey. "But happy for him. We’re very proud of him. Shoot, he is a tough friggin’ matchup. He’s a tough matchup. ... We wish him nothing but the best."

Devers was a three-time All-Star with the Red Sox and helped bring a championship to Boston in 2018. He was signed to a ten-year, $313 million deal and was the franchise player before the trade.

He went 2-for-12 with two RBIs and a home run in the series against the Red Sox. While the Devers trade will be a talking point all season, the Red Sox as a team are ready to put the whole situation behind them. They still have a chance to make the postseason and have an array of young, talented players.

The Red Sox were playing some of their best baseball before the Devers trade, and trying to win without him will not be easy. However, when they get Alex Bregman back from his quad injury, they could still be a threat in the American League.
