And just like that, the Boston Red Sox are in postseason contention.

The AL East club went on a nine-game winning streak before the All-Star break.

Players who were likely to be traded at the deadline, including outfielder Jarren Duran and closer Aroldis Chapman, are most likely staying put.

Now that the Red Sox are likely buyers, they could upend their rivals' trade-deadline plans by acquiring a Silver Slugger catcher from the Colorado Rockies

On Wednesday, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller listed both the Red Sox and New York Yankees as "presumably interested parties" for Hunter Goodman.

It would take a strong offer for the Rockies to depart with Goodman. He has tremendous power, as evidenced by his 27 home runs in mid-July.

Also, the 26-year-old has three years of club control following 2026.

If the Rockies' front office feels keeping Goodman is better for the club's long-term outlook, that's what they'll do.

"But if they can honestly see a path to the postseason by 2028, then, no, Hunter Goodman shouldn't be going anywhere," Miller wrote. "He has been, hands down, their most valuable player since the beginning of last season, and they can keep him for another three years after this one."

The Yankees have received terrible offensive production from their catchers this season. Adding Goodman behind the plate would deepen their lineup.

But what if the Red Sox make the most aggressive offer? The Yankees would have to pivot, and if the two teams meet, his power could hurt New York in the playoffs.
