The Boston Red Sox have started talks with multiple-time Cy Young Blake Snell and multiple-time All-Star and Gold Glove Max Fried, per Jeff Passan. Both were rumored to be contacted by the Sox, and it looks like that was true.
Starting with Snell, he’s a guy the Sox were going for last offseason, but couldn’t get him. Coming off an injury-ridden season with the San Francisco Giants, it seems Snell is looking for a change in scenery.
This past season, Snell made 20 starts, and posted a 5-3 record, with a 3.12 ERA, and 145 strikeouts. The Sox were one of the finalists to get him last year, so they might be one of the favorites this year.
As for Fried, the Sox have been all in on him for a while. This past season, Fried started 29 games, posted a record 11-10, and obtained an ERA of 3.25 and 166 strikeouts.
If the Sox could either pitcher, it would be a massive win. If they got both, it would be unbelievable. The Sox’s biggest need is a left-handed starter, and getting either guy would solve that problem.
