Tonight, the Boston Red Sox have a chance to make franchise history, as they look to win their 16th game in a row, breaking the previous record from 1946. Win or lose, Boston has shown that they are real contenders, and probably will be buyers at the trade deadline.
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand believes so as well, as well as the New York Post’s Jon Heyman. With that in mind, here are three big name catchers Boston could target if they really want to get a star.
Hunter Goodman is top of the line

Goodman would be the top of Boston’s list, but he does seem to come with a hefty asking price. This season, he’s slashing .257/.326/.565/.891 with 16 doubles, 31 home runs, and 57 RBI in 94 games.
He also has two more years of arbitration as well, so it’s not like he’s a rental or heavy burden on the payroll yet. He would become Boston’s best slugger, and would probably even enjoy the same or better stats, as he’s not a victim of the Coors Light Field Effect, as he hits much better on the road.
Shea Langeliers is solid

Another great pick would be Langeliers. The A’s catcher would be a B+ to A- acquisition to Goodman’s A+, but still an overall great trade candidate.
This season, he’s slashing .260/.330/.496/.826 with 18 doubles, 23 home runs, and 51 RBI in 91 games. Like Goodman, he too has two years of arbitration, but unlike the Colorado Rockies, the Athletics might want to keep him for precisely that reason.
However, Boston has the perfect assets to overwhelm the A’s, making it entirely possible a trade could happen.
Adley Rutschman could be unconventional

Rustchman could be a great middle-of-the-line pick for Boston. However it would be unconventional; they would have to convince a division rival, the Baltimore Orioles, to give them one of their All-Stars. However, Rustchman is fighting for starting time at catcher, and the Orioles clearly need some help if they want to contend in the future.
While Rustchman is only hitting .251/.331/.433/.764 this season with 19 doubles, eight home runs, and 47 RBI in 67 games this season, his ability to switch-hit in a hitter-friendly park like Fenway might be perfect to help him return to All-Star form.
