The Boston Red Sox are in a bit of a predicament, as first baseman Triston Casas is done for the 2025 season.
He tore his patellar tendon on a play at first base last week and was carted off the field at Fenway Park before ultimately having surgery.
The Red Sox could look at internal options, but they could also try to find somebody from outside the organization to help them fill the hole at first base. Options are thin, but not nonexistent.
Justin Leger of NBC Sports Boston proposed the idea of Boston signing three-time All-Star Anthony Rizzo, who was once a prospect in their organization.
"On the free-agent market, Anthony Rizzo is the name that stands out. But at 35 years old and coming off an injury-plagued 2024, it's unclear if the three-time All-Star is in playing shape -- or if he even wants to play in 2025. If he's ready to contribute, he'd be an obvious fit," Leger writes.

Rizzo was ultimately traded to the San Diego Padres prior to the 2011 season and would make his Major League debut there before being sent to the Chicago Cubs.
He helped the Cubs win their first World Series title since 1908 in 2016 and was with Chicago until 2021, when he joined the New York Yankees via trade.
His past few seasons in New York have left a lot to be desired. He battled injuries last season and hit just .228/.301/.335 with eight home runs, 35 RBI and a poor .637 OPS.
But if he is ready to play, he could be an obvious candidate to fill the void at first base. His ties to the Red Sox organization certainly help.
In addition to his three All-Star nods and World Series ring, Rizzo is a four-time Gold Glove first baseman, a Platinum Glove winner, a Silver Slugger and a Roberto Clemente Award winner.
It will be interesting to see if Boston decides to kick the tires on him.
