The Boston Red Sox are bringing a young pitcher to the major leagues who has never even appeared at Triple-A.
Eduardo Rivera is on his way to Fenway Park to take part in the ongoing series against the New York Yankees.
MassLive's Chris Cotillo reported the call-up late Tuesday night.
Rivera is a 6-foot-7 left-hander originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The A's made him an 11th-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft.
The Athletics released him in May 2024, but the Red Sox quickly latched onto Rivera, and he has blossomed in the Boston system.
Last season between High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland, Rivera put up a combined 2.48 ERA.
He then had a 3.00 ERA in the Puerto Rican Winter League, and he also pitched for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic (4.05 ERA in two appearances).

That set up Rivera to be sharp out of the chute this season, with a 0.90 ERA in two starts back at Double-A Portland.
In 10.0 innings this season, Rivera has allowed one run, six hits and three walks while striking out 16 hitters.
His career minor league strikeout per nine ratio is 11.0, with a walks per nine ratio of 5.0.
The Red Sox recently lost Sonny Gray to injury, and this season already they've done a decent amount of pitcher churning through their system.
Rivera seems to have real promise, and now this will be his chance to try and prove that at the MLB level.
