Red Sox $3.85 million All-Star predicted to join Padres at deadline

The Boston Red Sox ended the first half of the 2025 season on a high note. They extended their winning streak to 10 games and improved to 53-45 on the season.

Now, Boston is in the second American League Wild Card spot and just three games back in the AL East. This comes after they traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants.

The team will likely be buying at this year's trade deadline, but that hasn't stopped other rumors from circulating.

Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut listed the most likely trade chips and predicted where they would be headed in the coming weeks. He predicted that outfielder Jarren Duran would join the San Diego Padres.

"Duran adds an All-Star-caliber left fielder to the Padres’ lineup, plugging a hole at a position that has produced the fifth-lowest OPS (.632) in the majors this year. Boston could get a few of the Padres’ top prospects in return, but a bigger piece could be closer Robert Suarez (3.54 ERA and 1.03 WHIP)," Johnson wrote.

With the Red Sox on a winning streak, a trade of Duran would seem unlikely. However, it's not impossible.

This could simply prove to be a pure baseball trade in which both the Red Sox and Padres acquire something of need to make a push towards the postseason.

Should Duran be traded to the Padres, Boston could bring back some solid pieces in return and also open up a regular spot in the outfield for top prospect Roman Anthony.

Duran is hitting .258/.318/.431 with eight home runs, 50 RBI, 16 stolen bases and a .749 OPS. He also has a 2.2 WAR.

Last year, he was an All-Star and even earned All-Star Game MVP honors. It will be interesting to see what the Red Sox do with Duran in the coming weeks.
