Real Madrid star withdraws from international duty, set to miss several games

Real Madrid are currently on top of the La Liga points table despite their rare blip against Atletico Madrid a couple of weeks ago.

Barring that 5-2 defeat against their city rivals in a crucial Madrid Derby, Los Blancos have fared pretty well under Xabi Alonso.

New signings like Franco Mastantuono, Dean Huijsen, and Alvaro Carreras have shown plenty of promise to flourish at Santiago Bernabeu.

Therefore, the news of Huijsen withdrawing from Spain's camp and return to Madrid's facility due to a muscle injury comes as a major blow for Alonso's men.

The 20-year-old centre-back, who has been a mainstay for Real Madrid since his £50m ($67m) switch from Bournemouth this summer, and he was gradually becoming a regular for La Roja.

Athletic Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte has replaced Huijsen and this injury setback could be a blow to his World Cup dreams as he would ideally want to cement his place in Spain's starting eleven.

Initially medical reports suggested that the youngster had muscle fatigue which meant he would miss only a couple of games before being back to full fitness.

However, his ultimate physical condition would only be determined by the club doctors when they get to run a few tests after his arrival at Valdebebas.

Will Huijsen be available to play El Clasico?

Real Madrid struggled last season because of frailties in their backline and therefore they invested heavily on defenders this summer.

Dean Huijsen of Real Madrid

All three defenders that they signed this summer are seen as crucial members in Alonso's system, especially Huijsen and Carreras, who have adapted to life in Madrid with aplomb.

Overall, Huijsen has been a regular starter for Los Blancos this season and Alonso seem to have a lot of trust in the Spanish centre back, who is seen as a cornerstone in this Real Madrid team and also a future leader.

Therefore, Huijsen's availability in the El Clasico clash against Barcelona on October 26 will be extremely crucial for Real Madrid.

Despite the severity of his injury, Real Madrid doctors are all set to monitor his physical condition very closely which may also force him to miss the matches against Getafe and Juventus right after the international break to get him ready for the big fixture against Barcelona.
