Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy is reportedly set to return to partial training alongside his teammates after being sidelined for around six months.
Mendy suffered a ruptured proximal tendon in his right quadriceps in the early minutes of Los Blancos' Copa del Rey final loss against archrivals Barcelona on April 26.
The 30-year-old then underwent surgery and is yet to make an appearance under Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso, who took charge in June following Carlo Ancelotti's dismissal.
Mendy, who arrived at Santiago Bernabeu from Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais in 2019, has been a key player in several crucial matches for Real Madrid. However, the Frenchman has often struggled to maintain a consistent form due to injuries.
During his ongoing six-year tenure at Real Madrid, Mendy has sustained 17 injuries, missing a total of 112 matches after being sidelined for over 620 days.
Now, a report from The Athletic has suggested that Mendy will be back in training with the squad this week as part of Real Madrid's plan for him to gradually regain complete fitness while avoiding any risks of injury setbacks.

What's next for Real Madrid and Ferland Mendy?
Even though he is expected to be back in training soon, Mendy's return to the pitch is still believed to be weeks away.
With his current contract set to expire next summer, several reports from last year suggested that Real Madrid and Mendy have reached an agreement over a potential contract renewal, but no official announcements have been made as of yet.
Mendy's upcoming return to the pitch also opens up possible uncertainties about his standing in Alonso's pecking order, considering the new additions to the defense line this summer and the Spanish manager's preferences.
While it remains to be seen how things turn out for Mendy in the coming weeks, Real Madrid are set to return to La Liga action in their match against Getafe on October 19 at Coliseum Stadium.
