Real Madrid have identified Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister as their long-term successor to Luka Modric- who is expected to make his final appearance at the Santiago Bernabeu on May 24 against Real Sociedad.

Modric, who joined Los Blancos from Tottenham in 2012, is closing the curtain on a legendary career in Spain.

The 39-year-old has won six UEFA Champions League titles, four La Liga trophies, and the 2018 Ballon d’Or and with his contract set to expire and no renewal in sight, Madrid are preparing for a major reshuffle in midfield.

Mac Allister, who signed for Liverpool from Brighton in June 2023 for a reported fee rising to £55 million [$74m], including add-ons has quickly become indispensable under Arne Slot.

Mac Allister, who has emerged as the heartbeat of Liverpool’s title-winning side, is seen as a player who can offer leadership and quality from the base of midfield. His ability to dictate tempo and break lines has caught the eye of Europe’s elite.

The Fichajes also noted, “His leading role in Liverpool’s system has made him an untouchable figure for Arne Slot,”.
