The Tampa Bay Rays added a six-year Major League veteran infielder to the organization on Sunday night.

According to Mark Polishuk of MLB Trade Rumors, Nick Madrigal's MLB.com profile indicates that he's signed a minor league deal with the AL East club.

"It was a short trip in free agency for Madrigal, who just returned to the open market a few days ago when he declined an outright assignment to the Angels’ Triple-A squad," Polishuk wrote.

Madrigal missed the entire 2025 season due to shoulder surgery. He signed a contract with the Angels during the offseason after a three-year stint with the Chicago Cubs

In 15 games with the Angels, Madrigal hit .273/.385/.295 with 12 hits and seven walks compared to three strikeouts in 52 trips to the plate.

He provides a quality glove but virtually no power on offense. Since making his debut with the Chicago White Sox in 2020, Madrigal has hit just four home runs in 300 career games.

With the Rays, Madrigal can fill in at second or third base.

"While Madrigal isn’t as easily optionable to the minors as some of the Rays’ other infield options at Triple-A, he provides Tampa Bay with some experienced depth," Polishuk added.
