The Baltimore Ravens don’t appear poised to make any blockbuster trade between now and the start of the 2026-27 NFL season.
The two-time Super Bowl champions may not even complete a mid-season deal to bolster their roster if they don’t feel inclined to do so.
Things could get interesting during the 2027 offseason, though, as a recent rumor suggests Baltimore could cut ties with their future Hall of Fame quarterback in a significant move.
“Numerous NFL executives and agents have told SportsBoom they expect Jackson to eventually request a trade, as he did in the past, with his timeline for getting a new deal consistently behind his peers, even when his production is historically significant,” NFL insider Jason L. Canfora reported Thursday.
“If he’s not signed by Week 1, I don’t think he’s back (in 2027),” one longtime personnel executive said. “Something keeps holding them back… Something’s not right there.”
Essentially, the Ravens’ inability to offer Jackson, who’s in the middle of a five-year, $260 million deal signed in 2023, the contract he feels he deserves in the near future may motivate the two-time MVP to seek a change of scenery at age 30 (how old he’ll be when the 2027 offseason arrives).
As Canfora noted in his report, it doesn’t help that the Kansas City Chiefs recently added two years to Patrick Mahomes’ current deal and took the total value of his contract from $450 million to $504 million.
Yes, the three-time Super Bowl champion has achieved more team success than Jackson in the big leagues.
Still, it doesn’t change the fact that the four-time Pro Bowler is a one-of-a-kind signal-caller who should be next in line for a massive payday if Baltimore doesn’t want to lose one of the best QBs in franchise history.
