The Baltimore Ravens are approaching the point when they need to give superstar safety Kyle Hamilton a contract extension.
When that day comes, it's safe to expect a record.
The current highest-paid safety in the NFL is Kerby Joseph of the Lions. He makes $21.5 million per season.
CBS Sports NFL writer Tyler Sullivan figures Hamilton will break that mark.
"Baltimore picked up Hamilton's fifth-year option earlier this offseason, but the organization will likely look to extend him at some point in the near future," Sullivan writes. "The 2022 first-rounder has blossomed into one of the best defensive players in the league, coming off back-to-back All-Pro and Pro Bowl seasons. The Notre Dame product was a key reason for the Ravens' defensive turnaround to end the regular season and a stat sheet stuffer. He could very well become the NFL's highest-paid safety when Baltimore gets around to his extension. Currently, that title belongs to Detroit's Kerby Joseph, who is making $21.5 million per season."

Hamilton is a playmaker all over the field and well worthy of the payday.
The only complicating factor for Baltimore might be the looming next big contract for Lamar Jackson.
If Jackson signs on the right timeline, he'll likely reset the quarterback market with the new biggest deal in the NFL.
The Ravens can make the salary cap implications of all the contracts work, but it won't be cheap.
