Ravens given 1-sentence update on Lamar Jackson contract

1 hour ago 3

Lamar Jackson has two years left on his contract with the Baltimore Ravens.

He's also due to have a cap hit of more than $84 million in the 2027 season.

Both of those things are reasons for Baltimore to act, because the Ravens don't want to lose Jackson for the long haul, and they also don't can't afford to have that level of cap hit next season.

ESPN's Aaron Schatz wrote in a new article on Thursday that the Ravens should be trying to get a Jackson contract extension done by the end of the summer.

And within that analysis, he wrote one sentence that will make Baltimore fans very happy:

"Jackson also isn't going anywhere but Baltimore."

That's written with a confidence that should be reassuring to a Ravens fanbase that has probably started to wonder at least a little bit if Jackson could eventually wind up in a different uniform.

There has been speculation earlier this offseason about Jackson being a trade candidate a year from now if no new deal gets done. That's a reasonable assessment, too, because if Jackson is entering the final year of his contract, things could get complicated.

Jackson also has a no-franchise clause in his contract, meaning he couldn't be given the franchise tag to keep him around when his deal is up. That means that, as currently constructed, Jackson enters free agency at the end of the 2027 season no matter what.

That's why the Ravens have to get Jackson to the table. He doesn't have an agent, which makes things a little more complicated, too.

But that one sentence from Schatz is what Ravens fans can cling to right now. The ESPN analyst doesn't think Jackson will play for someone else. That's going to have to be enough reassurance for right now.
