Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed is in the last of his contract with the New Orleans Saints and it doesn't appear the team intends to sign him to an extension. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the organization may be open to trading the seasoned receiver.

According to Kristopher Knox in a Bleacher Report story, the Pittsburgh Steelers could come to terms with the the Saints to get Shaheed since they want a wide receiver before the trade deadline.

"Given Shaheed's presumed price point, only teams that legitimately believe they can make a postseason run are likely to make an offer—and that list probably doesn't include the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, even if they could use added receiver depth. The Saints aren't about to do a division rival any favors," Knox wrote. "The Pittsburgh Steelers, though, could use a field-stretching wideout. They've been 'making calls' about receivers, according to Russini."

Shaheed and Chris Olave's contracts are about to expire, but Schefter claims the team is attempting to sign Olave to an extension even though he'd most likely attract a more valuable trade compensation.

Shaheed has performed well for the Saints over the past two seasons. He is poised to achieve his most productive pro season this year, having amassed 39 receptions for 431 yards and two touchdowns in eight games.

The 27-year-old receiver, who signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2022, has groundbreaking speed that, when combined with Calvin Austin and DK Metcalf, may make the Steelers' offense more potent.

The Steelers may face competition from other teams that also need a wide receiver, but the Saints are not expected to play hardball during talks for a trade for Shaheed if they get a desirable offer.

What do the Saints want for Rashid Shaheed?

While the New Orleans Saints are unlikely to deal wide receiver Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed might be traded if the team receives a third-round trade compensation offer, according to a Sunday report from Adam Schefter.

"Teams continue to call the Saints regarding the trade availability of Shaheed and fellow receiver Chris Olave, sources told ESPN. The Saints are attempting to re-sign Olave to a contract extension, and sources believe New Orleans would like to receive a third-round draft pick in a trade involving Shaheed," Schefter wrote.

Shaheed only managed 719 yards and five touchdowns in his most productive season over his three full seasons in the league. In light of this, the Steelers may deem a third-round pick as excessive compensation for a trade.

Pittsburgh has been linked with other prospective trade targets including Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders, Jaylen Waddle of the Miami Dolphins, and Calvin Ridley of the Tennessee Titans.
