Rangers re-sign World Series champion reliever who made MLB debut with Dodgers

The Texas Rangers have re-signed a right-handed reliever after previously granting him his release earlier this week. 

According to a report from Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, the AL West club has brought back Josh Sborz, who was a member of the 2023 World Series title squad. 

Sborz has not made an appearance in the Majors since 2024, as injuries have limited him to minimal innings at Triple-A Round Rock and Double-A Frisco. 

"Shoulder problems have mostly hampered him since that triumphant moment," Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors wrote about Sborz's championship with the Rangers.

"Sborz was limited to 16 2/3 innings in 2024. He missed all of last season while working back from a debridement procedure after a setback during a brief minor league rehab attempt," Franco added. "Texas opted not to tender him an arbitration contract but was able to retain him via a minor league deal."

Sborz turned 32 this past December and made his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019. 

Since that time, he has thrown 163.1 innings and averages 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings with a 4.96 ERA. Perhaps he can impress enough in the minors and work his way back to the mound at Globe Life Field after a two-year hiatus.
