Carson Soucy was placed on injured reserve on Sunday ahead of the Rangers’ matchup with the Capitals at Madison Square Garden.
After the 31-year-old defenseman sustained an upper-body injury in the second period of their eventual 6-1 victory in Pittsburgh on Saturday, which knocked him out for the remainder of the contest, the Rangers ruled Soucy out for at least a week.
Connor Mackey was subsequently recalled for the Rangers’ AHL affiliate in Hartford.

Either Mackey or Matthew Robertson will replace Soucy on defense Sunday night against Washington.
The Rangers were unable to recall Scott Morrow, who was acquired this offseason as part of the trade return for K’Andre Miller, due to cap restraints.

Since Mackey carries a cap hit of only the league minimum of $775,000, the Rangers could fit him under the cap as opposed to Morrow’s $917,000.

Soucy crashed into the boards awkwardly while attempting a hit on Penguins forward Rickard Rakell in the second period.
Looking shaken up after the fall, Soucy consulted with a Rangers trainer before skating off on his own power to the locker room.
