Rams urged to finally invest in premium position that cost them NFC Championship

The Los Angeles Rams got some great news during the NFL honors show, with Matthew Stafford announcing his intention to return for one more season. With Stafford back, the Rams are ready to go all-in this upcoming season.

But, how should the Rams go about going "all-in" for the 2026 season? There's one position that's not only a clear need, and not only a premium position they've not invested in, but one that cost them the NFC Championship game that the Rams should address.

As Nate Atkins of The Athletic urges the Rams to address the outside cornerback hole. The Rams cannot go without addressing this spot this offseason. If there were one position to invest in this offseason, it would be outside cornerback.

Rams urged to land outside CB after failing to invest in position for years

"The Rams' clear biggest weakness is at outside cornerback," Atkins writes. "It's the one premium position they haven't invested in, opting for waiver claims, Day 3 draft picks, and aging veterans."

After spending so little on the position, the Rams have a dire need at outside cornerback. They've been able to be a competitive team without one, but now, they cannot afford to spend so little on the position.

As seen by the two Super Bowl teams, in Seattle Seahawks' Devon Witherspoon and New England Patriots' Christian Gonzalez, having an elite number one cornerback is a massive boost to a defense.

A year ago, the Philadelphia Eagles, with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, won the Super Bowl, with both playing key roles for their defense despite being rookies.

The Rams should be addressing their outside cornerback spot with one of their two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. Les Snead and Sean McVay need to go all-in on the cornerback spot this offseason with Stafford back in the fold.

Someone like Cobie Durant might be worth extending, but he should not be the only cornerback the Rams bring in for the 2026 season.

Their outside cornerback play cost them in the NFC Championship game after being unable to stop Sam Darnold and the Seahawks offense.

If they had someone like how the Patriots had Gonzalez, they might've been able to beat the Seahawks, and as seen by how the Super Bowl went, they likely would've beaten the Patriots for their second title since acquiring Stafford.
