The Los Angeles Rams have put together an incredibly exciting defense, as they've added Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, and, most importantly, Myles Garrett in deals this offseason.
Adding Garrett is going to be huge for this defense, and especially for one underrated player on the Rams defense who might finally break out into superstardom.
CBS Sports' Zachary Pereles named Rams Pro Bowl edge rusher Byron Young as the team's top breakout candidate, and while Young has already proven to be a great player, he could become even more of a star by playing opposite Garrett this year.
Rams' Byron Young might break out as a superstar in 2026
"It can be difficult to find an under-the-radar star on a team with so many very much on-the-radar stars, but Byron Young fits the bill here," Pereles writes.
Young has already proven himself to be a good player, with his Pro Bowl nod and 12 sacks this past season proof he's a good player already.
But, in 2026, Young might break out into more than just a star. With so much attention on Garrett on the opposite side of the defensive line, Young might be able to put up some truly remarkable statistics this season.
Teams can't afford to double Young with Garrett on the field. Jared Verse was good for the Rams and did help Young produce more this past season, but Garrett is a different tier of edge rushers.

The former Cleveland Browns superstar had 23 sacks last season on a defense that didn't get many chances to play while leading in games. Now with the Rams, a good team, Garrett should get a lot more opportunities to sack the quarterback.
But, with all of the attention on Garrett, Young should be able to thrive in 2026, and might even finish with more sacks than Garrett in 2026 if teams sell out to stop the new Rams edge from doing damage.
Young is a legitimate breakout candidate this season, as he's not trying to break out as simply a good player, but rather as a superstar who deserves a massive contract extension worth more than $35 million per-year.
