Rams defender registers fastest sack one of the fastest sacks of the season

The Rams improved to 5-5 on Sunday with a win over the Patriots, keeping their Wild Card chances alive in a crowded NFC West picture now featuring three teams sitting at exactly .500.

Sean McVay’s defense counted for three sacks in the 28-22 win, one of those being a punishing strip sack on Drake Maye midway through the second quarter that set up the Rams inside the red zone.

With the score tied 7-7, Maye lined up in the shotgun on 3rd and 3, before Rams rookie second-round pick Braden Fiske burst through the line unguarded to force a fumble.

With Maye on the turf, the Rams took over and scored on their ensuing possession, but it was Fiske’s play that stole the show, according to Next Gen Stats.

After the game, it was revealed that Fiske’s sack ranked fastest among defensive linemen (including edge rushers) this season, clocking in at a time of 2.32 seconds.

In terms of the bigger picture, the sack was the third-fastest overall this season behind only Jets linebacker Quincy Williams, and Broncos linebacker Cody Barton.

Adding another sack late in the third quarter, Fiske now has five on the year to go with two forced fumbles – making up part of a much-improved Rams defense that also features current Defensive Rookie of the Year favorite, Jared Verse.

Drafted in the second round with the 39th overall pick in April, Fiske’s recent play would go a long way to containing Jalen Hurts next week on Sunday Night Football.
