The Las Vegas Raiders were expected to go on a spending spree this offseason after the team sported one of the largest cap space numbers in the NFL going into free agency. However, that has not been the case.
The Raiders did pull off a blockbuster trade for Geno Smith, but the team has lost several key starters on defense and hasn't done much on offense. The two biggest additions on offense were guard Alex Cappa and running back Raheem Mostert, both of whom come with concerns.
With three-plus weeks of free agency in the books, let's take a closer look at what the Raiders' starting lineup looks like based on what the team has on its roster currently, and where Las Vegas must improve.
Raiders projected starting lineup
Position | Player |
QB | Geno Smith |
RB | Raheem Mostert |
WR1 | Jakobi Meyers |
WR2 | Tre Tucker |
WR3 | Kristian Wilkerson |
TE1 | Brock Bowers |
LT | Kolton Miller |
LG | Dylan Parham |
C | Jackson Powers-Johnson |
RG | Alex Cappa |
RT | D.J. Glaze |
Saying the Raiders have a rough situation at wide receiver currently would be the understatement of the century.
Meyers is best suited as the No. 2 option in the wide receivers room and, sorry to say, Tucker and Wilkerson are not NFL starters. The only reason we put Wilkerson there is because he had the most receiving yards of any receiver still on the roster from 2024 not named Meyers or Tucker — 18.
The Raiders need at least two additions to the wide receivers room, which would push Tucker to the No. 4 role he's best suited for. Wide receivers such as Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore would be solid bridge options.
Running back is another spot that is undecided. The soon-to-be 33-year-old Mostert is not a lock by any stretch and, as the roster is currently constructed, his stiffest form of competition will come from Sincere McCormick, who is unproven.
The Raiders desperately need more help, so adding J.K. Dobbins or Nick Chubb would make sense at this point. We'll likely see Las Vegas draft a running back in what is a strong class, and quite possibly as soon as the No. 6 overall pick, where the Raiders have routinely been pegged as a landing spot for Ashton Jeanty.
Along the offensive line, we believe Miller and JPJ are locked-in with starting roles, and Glaze is far and away the favorite at right tackle after an impressive rookie campaign. He'll face competition from Thayer Munford Jr.
The guard spots are less certain. Along with Parham and Cappa, Jordan Meredith will also be competing for one of the two starting guard spots.
Meredith was better than expected after being thrust into a bigger role last season and it's not crazy to think he could beat out Cappa, who struggled mightily with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024, which led to his release.
Parham is easily the safest bet to land a starting job of the trio. Which spot he ends up landing at remains to be seen, but Parham has experience on both sides.
Here's a quick review of who we believe is a lock, near-lock and major question mark from the group we have posted above:
Raiders lineup locks: Smith, Meyers, Bowers, Miller, Powers-Johnson
Raiders lineup near-locks: Parham, Glaze
Raiders biggest lineup question marks: Cappa, Mostert, Wilkerson, Tucker
Long story short: Las Vegas still has plenty of work to do before the 2025 season begins. Luckily, the team still has ample cap space and a ton of draft picks to address some of their biggest needs.
