The Las Vegas Raiders have seen a lot of turnover in 2025 after the team hired a new head coach and general manager, and traded for a new quarterback.
As a result, things are looking up in Las Vegas, although it's hard to know exactly how things will pan out in 2025 with so many new faces on both sides of the ball. Adding to that, the Raiders play in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL with three teams that made the playoffs in 2024.
According to CBS Sports' Josh Edwards, things won't go well in Las Vegas in 2025, which will lead to the team landing the No. 6 overall pick once again in 2026. And, with that pick, Edwards projects the selection of South Carolina quarterback, LaNorris Sellers.
"Geno Smith could start and play most, if not all, of the 2026 season before giving way to Sellers. Smith will turn 35 during the upcoming season and quarterbacks do not often perform at a high level this late into their careers," Edwards wrote. "Sellers showed a lot of growth for the Gamecocks this past season and may still have another level to take his game."
Sellers is widely considered one of the best quarterback prospects who could come out in 2026. Sellers is coming off a season in which he proved to be a weapon, with the South Carolina signal-caller completing 65.6% of his passes for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns to seven interceptions.
He also showed his electric running ability with 674 yards and another seven scores on the ground, which gives him 28 total touchdowns over two seasons at South Carolina. He possesses all the tools to be a star at the next level, but there is obviously still plenty of work to be done.
With Geno Smith set to turn 35 this year and effectively having a two-year contract with the Raiders having an easy out in 2027, the future under center in Las Vegas isn't secured.
The Raiders did draft two quarterbacks in Cam Miller and Tommy Mellott, but did so in the sixth round, which makes it unlikely either one will pan out unless the Raiders get lucky, something history says won't happen.
While the Raiders didn't address quarterback early on in this year's draft, it's very conceivable that won't be the case in 2026. If so, Sellers could be a target for Las Vegas.
