Raiders head coach rumor pinpoints 'prime candidate' for Las Vegas' job

The Las Vegas Raiders' head-coach search drags on into another week.

But, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, business should pick up this week, and there appears to be a favorite for Las Vegas' gig.

Fowler is reporting that Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is considered a "prime candidate" for the job, but Denver Broncos passing-game coordinator Davis Webb is considered "a viable option, too."

Fowler goes on to mention other candidates the Raiders have interviewed, but he seems to be putting emphasis on Webb and Kubiak.

"Raiders’ coaching search should come into focus after Sunday. Multiple league sources consider Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak a prime candidate after a strong first interview," Fowler reported. "Broncos pass-game coordinator Davis Webb is often mentioned in league circles as a viable option, too. Several assistants still playing — Rams’ Mike LaFleur, Chris Shula, Nate Scheelhaase; Broncos’ Vance Joseph — interviewed virtually with the club."

The likely reason the Raiders have yet to settle on a new head coach yet is the guy they want is still in the playoffs, thus he can't be officially hired yet.

All of the coaches mentioned by Fowler are still in the postseason, and all of them will be able to hold a second in-person interview during the Super Bowl bye week. Whoever the Raiders bring in for a second interview will be considered a finalist.

However, the Raiders will have to wait a few more weeks to hire any of the coaches who make it to the Super Bowl. For those coaches who are on eliminated teams this weekend, the Raiders will be able to hire them this week.

Reports suggest the Raiders are looking for an offensive-minded head coach, which makes sense given the likelihood Las Vegas will land Indiana's Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.

Based on that, we would consider Kubiak the favorite over Webb because of his experience, but we could see Las Vegas landing either one at this point.
