The Las Vegas Raiders began the year strong, but after four straight losses, the Raiders are now in a bit of a pickle with their quarterback situation.

Will the Raiders bench Kirk Cousins now and turn the keys over to first-overall rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza? After Week 7, there's been plenty of calls urging the Raiders to do just that.

However, Raiders reporter Levi Edwards shared head coach Klint Kubiak's response to those calls, as he cleared the air on the QB situation, sharing the team's plan with Cousins and Mendoza going forward.

Raiders HC clears air on QB situation with Kirk Cousins, Fernando Mendoza

"Klint Kubiak immediately shuts down speculation on switching to Fernando Mendoza after fourth straight loss," Edwards reports. Kubiak went on to say, "Kirk Cousins is our quarterback. There is no controversy."

This update from Kubiak should make it clear where the Raiders stand with their quarterback room heading into Week 8, coming off a tough loss.

While the Raiders will surely entertain a pivot to Mendoza at some point this season, as seeing what their No. 1 overall pick can do would make a lot of sense, it might not happen for some time.

Based on Kubiak's comments, the Raiders aren't going away from Cousins anytime soon, even with the team's four-game losing skid.

Cousins hasn't actually been a bad quarterback statistically this season, throwing for 1,877 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions through seven weeks.

He's thrown for two or more touchdowns in all but one game this season, and he has 290-plus yards in three of his last four games as well.

Cousins hasn't been the issue with the Raiders, or the offense. Their run game is nonexistent, and their defense has really struggled lately.

Meanwhile, Cousins is meshing well with Brock Bowers, Tre Tucker, and Michael Mayer lately. The Raiders aren't in dire need of a QB change based on Cousins' on-field performance.

So, for fans hoping to see Mendoza get his first chance at starting this season, it might have to wait a while, with this update from Kubiak clearing the air on the potential for a QB controversy, making it clear there is no such thing, and Cousins is the starter.
