Raiders' Geno Smith goes off on critics of youth football game controversy

A video of Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith shouting at an apparent heckler went viral over the weekend.

In the video, Smith is seen shouting at a bystander while he was coaching the South Florida Express at a 7-on-7 tournament.

"That’s why they pay me the big bucks. That’s why I get paid the big bucks,” Smith shouted at the bystander. “That’s why they bring the big bucks to me, that’s why they pay me the big bucks!"

After the video went viral on social media, Smith addressed it on X, stating that he was just having fun. Smith also expressed frustration that the desire for negativity and clicks is overshadowing the event that took place.

"Having fun with the game I love but man, the need for clicks and negativity takes away from the great event that happened this past weekend. All the kids had fun and competed. All around great event. This is how we talk in Dade county I’m sorry u might not understand," Smith wrote on X. Carry on!"

The Raiders quarterback also joked that he's heard worse at a family reunion than what he said in the video.

"I’ve heard worse at family reunion spade tables!" Smith wrote on X.

Smith wasn't done responding to critics of the video, as he told a Seattle Seahawks fan to check the record books after the fan pleaded for someone to ego-check the veteran quarterback.

"Seahawks fan. Check the record books!" Smith said in response to the Seahawks fan.

Smith, who is entering his first season as Las Vegas' starting signal-caller after being traded from the Seahawks in March, will play a pivotal role for Pete Carroll's squad in 2025 and for the future, as he is under contract until 2028 after signing a two-year extension this offseason.
