Raiders cap space, explained: How Maxx Crosby's contract impacts Las Vegas after free agency spending spree

1 hour ago 2

As much as things change for the Raiders, they also stay the same.

Las Vegas shook up its roster after a dour 2025 campaign saw it finish with the joint-worst record in the league. Gone were Pete Carroll and Geno Smith, perhaps the two most glaring reminders of their toils. In their place are Klint Kubiak and, in all likelihood, Fernando Mendoza, the presumptive No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Maxx Crosby was also expected to move on to pastures new during the offseason, with the star pass-rusher making clear his intentions of seeking a different employer come the end of the campaign. The Raiders looked to have found a willing trade partner in the Ravens, who offered two first-round picks to land the five-time Pro Bowler. But on the 11th hour, Baltimore backed out, spooked away by a questionable medical report.

So, where does that leave Las Vegas? Yes, the Raiders retained one of football's finest sack specialists. But it came at a significant financial cost to them, especially when one considers their outlay during free agency.

With that, here's a look at Las Vegas' salary cap situation following Crosby's shock U-turn.

Raiders cap space

The Raiders have $50.9 million of cap space following Crosby's return to the roster, according to Spotrac. That's the fourth-highest mark in football, bested only by the Commanders, Chargers and Ravens.

Crosby remains Las Vegas' highest-paid player. His cap hit of $35.79 million constitutes nearly 12 percent of the $301.2 million maximum cap figure.

The Raiders will cut into their cap space figure in the coming few months. The 2026 NFL Draft will see a handful of players join Las Vegas' ranks, moving them closer to the salary cap ceiling. Nevertheless, they still have ample room to work with if they want to add more talent to their roster.

Raiders free agency signings

The Raiders underwent a facelift in the offseason, adding several pieces to a roster that performed miserably at times in 2025. Las Vegas made former Raven Tyler Linderbaum the league's highest-paid center, agreeing to terms on a three-year, $81 million contract that includes $60 million guaranteed.

Linderbaum, a two-time Pro Bowler who boasts a pass block win rate of 96.2% since entering the league, figures to fortify a Raiders offensive line that struggled in 2025. The transaction, while pricey, could prove imperative, especially with Mendoza likely to touch down in the coming few months.

Las Vegas also retooled its defense, landing Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker and Kwity Paye, among others.

Maxx Crosby contract

  • Years: Three
  • Contract value: $106.5 million

Crosby inked a three-year, $106.5 million extension with the Raiders ahead of the 2025 season. Currently, he is the sixth-highest-paid defensive player in the league based on average annual value (AAV), collecting $35.5 million a season.

The edge rusher has two seasons left on his current deal. Of the $106.5 million he's set to receive over the course of the contract, $91.5 million of that total is guaranteed. His cap hit will drop to $29.78 million in 2027.

Crosby's on-field production suggests Las Vegas could find a willing dance partner for their star pass-rusher in the event it wants to part ways with him. His injury toils -- namely that pesky meniscus -- could affect what the Raiders can get for him, however.
