A racist text message screenshot and shared by Los Angeles Sparks star Dearica Hamby has resulted in the sender's dismissal from their position at the medical equipment supplier Acclaro Medical.
On Aug. 24, Hamby revealed on social media a text sent to her personal phone number. She asked her 47,000 followers on X for help in identifying the sender, who included their own personal phone number with Florida area code 561.
Acclaro Medical was quickly alerted to the text after internet sleuths tracked down the sender's phone number. The employee was suspended shortly thereafter, and Acclaro Medical confirmed to USA Today on Tuesday that the person had been fired.

Hamby, a three-time All-Star and two-time Sixth Player of the Year winner, is the latest WNBA player to receive racist messages or threats as the league continues to grapple with external challenges.
Las Vegas Aces guard Chelsea Gray exposed racist direct messages she received in July, which similarly led to the sender's dismissal from their job.
After Alyssa Thomas garnered a one-game suspension for a fist to Caitlin Clark's throat in June, the Phoenix Mercury star revealed that she had received death threats in addition to racist messages online. Thomas directly called out beleaguered WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert and implored her to do more to protect the league from threats of this nature.
