A core ingredient of the Texas Longhorns' recipe of success lately has been their elite offense, thanks to Steve Sarkisian's NFL-level offensive mastermind.
It is also the main draw for recruits, something that their former starting QB Quinn Ewers takes great pride in.
When the opportunity presented itself, Ewers went on and on about how the coaching staff makes their players ready for the NFL through his anecdote.
"It’s the best college program that gets you ready for an NFL team and an NFL franchise because of the way that it’s run and the way that Sark runs it. He’s coached in the NFL – he’s coached in Atlanta for a couple years. And I feel like he just brought that mindset down to us at Texas. He really just treats us like we’re grown, professional football players at the end of the day if you earn that," Ewers told On3.
The QB stressed how valuable Sarkisian's NFL coaching experience and his structuring the Longhorns' offense in the NFL way proved for him once he switched to the NFL.
"Within this offensive scheme, I feel like we do a lot of NFL stuff, obviously, because his offense was in the NFL and it succeeded in the NFL. He brought that down to college, and that’s what I ran. Funny enough, we do a lot of stuff that Miami does, too," Ewers said.
Ewers' testimony adds another layer to strengthen Texas's recruiting run. They might not need it this year for their class of 2025, but they have a dire need for it for their class of 2026.
247 Sports ranked Texas's 2025 class the best in college football, with 25 commits, five of whom are 5-star recruits.
Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out much for the Longhorns in luring in their future players so far, as they fell to No. 25 in 247 Sports' ranking of the class of 2026. On top of that, the Longhorns are nowhere to be found in ESPN's top 25 ranked teams for the class of 2026.
We'll see how Ewers' admission about his team helps Sarkisian shore up his roster.
