The New York Jets have been among the worst NFL teams this season and the AFC East franchise stirred controversy after cancelling a Long Island super fan, Ashley Castanio-Gervasi's final round of the “Kick for Cash” competition to be held on Sunday.

Ashley Castanio-Gervasi, who was set to participate in the competition for a chance to win $100,000, was denied participation on Monday because she is a high school soccer coach.

The decision drew backlash from fans and NFL entities on social media and the Jets have reversed their decision on Friday as Castanio-Gervasi is set to participate in the competition at MetLife Stadium on the weekend.

Jets issued a clarification on banning die-hard fan after backlash on social media

The Jets clarified in a statement that their earlier decision to ban Ashley Castanio-Gervasi from the Kick for Cash competition was an "unfortuante misunderstanding."

“We realized there was an unfortunate misunderstanding regarding Ashley’s eligibility for the contest. In an effort to remedy the situation, we are allowing her to kick this Sunday for an opportunity to win the prize,” the Jets said in a statement.

Castanio-Gervasi, a Long Beach girls varsity coach, made the final round of the competition after kicking a qualifying 20-yarder at a tailgate event in October. She will be one of the participants in the contest set to take place during the halftime of the Jets' game against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
