Paris Saint-Germain were on the receiving end of a crushing defeat against Chelsea in the final of the Club World Cup on July 13 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Chelsea put three goals past PSG by the end of the first half, while the French club were unable to open their scoring and failed to lift their fifth trophy of the 2024/25 season.

Speaking after the match, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated that he was proud of the team, mentioning that this defeat against Chelsea would keep them humbled and motivated for the upcoming season.

The Ligue 1 club president also addressed an incident that took place after the final whistle, involving head coach Luis Enrique.

PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma appeared to be involved in an argument with Chelsea's Joao Pedro, during which Enrique interfered to support his player.

The situation seemed to get more heated after Enrique stepped in as the Spanish manager was seen pushing Pedro and raising his arm towards the Brazilian star's face.

More people, including players and staff from both clubs, got involved in order to prevent the situation from getting worse.

In the post-match press conference, Nasser Al-Khelaifi defended his manager, Enrique, hailing the 55-year-old as the 'most disciplined coach.'

What did PSG president say about Luis Enrique?

Al-Khelaifi explained that Enrique, whom he referred to as the 'most respected coach in the world,' was trying to neutralize the fight between the players and got 'caught up' in between.

"Our coach is the most disciplined and respected coach in the world. He went to separate the players who were fighting, and he got caught up in it. Coaches deserve respect too," as per GOAL.

Several reports have suggested that Enrique can potentially face disciplinary actions, which could include a temporary ban for the manager.

Prior to the beginning of their 2025/26 Ligue 1 campaign, PSG are set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13.
