The New York Yankees made a good move retaining their MVP outfielder in Cody Bellinger, but with it, their rising star Jasson Dominguez has nowhere to play on a regular basis. With that in mind, it might be time to deal the 22-year-old for other needs.
Fansided’s Christopher Kline proposes that the Yankees make a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, for two of their top pitching prospects. With New York’s injured veteran pitching staff, getting some young arms could be useful.
The trade would look like this:
Phillies get: OF Jasson Domínguez
Yankees get: RHP Jean Cabrera (PHI #11), RHP Zach McCambley (PHI #30)
“Cody Bellinger's new contract means Jasson Domínguez is once again iced out of the New York Yankees' everyday lineup…It's worth remembering that Domínguez is well ahead of the curve for his age, despite the mounting frustrations of impatient Yankees fans. The defense is a real problem, and there's a chance Domínguez spends his prime years as a DH. But otherwise, there's much to be excited about…Still, with Spencer Jones coming through the pipeline and the Yankees dedicating outfield spots to Bellinger, Aaron Judge and Trent Grisham, Domínguez could use a fresh start, perhaps in a lower-stakes environment,” Kline wrote.
This past season, Dominguez slashed .257/.331/.388/.719 with 18 doubles, 10 home runs, 47 RBI, and 23 stolen bases in 123 games played. While he definitely has shown strides in getting better, he’s still no match for the outfielders ahead of him.
As for what the Yanks get in return for this proposal, the Phillies would offer Jean Cabrera, a strikeout-machine of a starting pitcher, and Zach McCambley, a reliever with a low BAA and a good K rate.
Hopefully, the Yankees consider something like this, as with Spring Training starting soon, they can use it to show off Dominguez to potential suitors.
