With the Boston Red Sox newest acquisition of superstar ace Walker Buehler, they are probably done with getting starters. However, that leaves them with two things, relievers and a righty bat. This proposed trade could fix the reliever problem, with getting Seattle Mariners’ Andres Munoz.
This past season, Munoz was very good. He posted a 2.12 ERA, and got 77 strikeouts and 22 saves in 60 games. This is also his third straight season with a sub 3.00 ERA.
Munoz is also young, at 26 years old, and has four years left on his contract, with the last three years, 2026-28, being team options. This means if he starts falling off quickly for any reason, the Sox could just let him go.
So why would the Mariners just let him go? Because their GM, Jerry Dipoto, has done it before. He traded Edwin Diaz, who has now blossomed into an elite closer. The Mariners already have a ton of good pitching, so they can afford to lose him.
In return, the Sox probably would have to give up lefty hitting, as that is what the Mariners need. Maybe a package centered around Wilyer Abreu or Masataka Yoshida would work.
Hopefully, the Sox consider this trade and get another stud to support their rebuilding rotation.
I know it’s Christmas Eve, but I can’t help it.
I haven’t seen anyone say anything about this guy and the Red Sox. So hear me out.
