Proposed Red Sox trade sees Boston finally deal Jarren Duran, receive multiple top prospects in return

The Boston Red Sox have been trying to do something with Jarren Duran all offseason, hovering between trading and not trading, what they want for him, or where’d they play him if they kept him. However, Spring Training is almost here, and a decision needs to be made.

For Fansided’s Christopher Kline, he’s in the camp of dealing Duran. He proposes that Boston makes a deal with the Kansas City Royals, and instead of landing a starting pitcher, which was the original idea, they go for prospects.

The trade would look like this:

Royals get: OF Jarren Duran

Red Sox get: OF/2B Sean Gamble (KC #3), C Ramon Ramirez (KC #9), RHP Luinder Avila (KC #14)

“Boston needs to clear room for Kristian Campbell, not to mention Masataka Yoshida, who has Boston trapped in cap purgatory for now. Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu are all everyday players and all of more value to Boston at present…The Kansas City Royals can complete their outfield makeover with Duran, who'd complete an excellent first five in the order alongside Maikel García, Bobby Witt, Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez. If the Royals' younger bats, such as Carter Jensen and Jac Caglianone, can start to approach their ceilings in 2026, suddenly Kansas City has more than enough firepower to get feisty in the imminently winnable AL Central,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Duran slashed .256/.332/.442/.774 with 41 doubles, 13 triples, 16 home runs, 84 RBI and 24 stolen bases in 157 games. He’d be the leader of the outfield the Royals desperately need, and an amazing leadoff bat for them.

As for Boston, they get some stud prospects in return. Avila is an MLB-ready reliever that’s already put up some good stats in 13 games, and Gamble and Ramirez, who are in rookie ball and A respectively, provide backup solutions in a couple years to depth at second base and catcher, especially if the Sox can’t find anyone to fill second long-term, and if they decide to move off Connor Wong as a backup catcher.

Hopefully Boston considers this, and gets to work on making a deal.
