Proposed Commanders trade for Trey Hendrickson sends draft picks, veteran EDGE to Bengals

If the Washington Commanders want to increase their chances of winning the Super Bowl in 2025, the team should be all-in on trading for Cincinnati Bengals star, Trey Hendrickson.

Hendrickson and the Bengals remain in a contract dispute that doesn't look like its going to end well. The four-time Pro Bowler has spoken out against his team on multiple occasions this year and a trade now feels inevitable.

Meanwhile, the Commanders lost their 2024 sacks leader, Dante Fowler Jr., to the Dallas Cowboys in free agency and have yet to adequately replace him.

With that in mind, Commanders Report by Chat Sports has proposed a trade that sees the Commanders give up a two draft picks and Dorance Armstrong for the rights to Hendrickson and a draft pick.

  • Commanders get: Trey Hendrickson, 2026 second-rounder
  • Bengals get: 2026 first-rounder, 2027 fourth-rounder, Dorance Armstrong

This would actually be a solid deal for both sides.

The Bengals get some great draft capital back for Hendrickson and a solid edge rusher who can replace him in the short term. We don't love Cincinnati sending back a second-rounder, but would be OK with a mid-round pick to get this done.

Meanwhile, the Commanders get an edge rusher who is an upgrade over Fowler and singlehandedly improves Washington's chances of winning a Super Bowl.

Another thing to factor in here is that Hendrickson will require an extension before a trade can be reached.

Luckily, the Commanders are in great shape financially in the next few years thanks to having Jayden Daniels on a rookie deal and can afford to pay the reigning NFL sacks leader the $35-$40 million he's likely seeking.

General manager Adam Peters has been quite aggressive this offseason, and we'd expect him to keep that same approach if Hendrickson ends up on the trade block.
