Proposed Celtics trade sees Boston deal Anfernee Simons for $100 million four-time NBA champion, DPOY

The Boston Celtics have been exceeding expectations all season, with a record of 30-18 and tied for second place in the Eastern Conference. However, with the return of superstar Jayson Tatum still up in the air, they need frontcourt depth to help them continue this run.

Fansided’s Christopher Kline proposes the C’s kill two birds with one stone: trade Anfernee Simons for Golden State Warriors franchise star Draymond Green.

The full trade would look like this:

Celtics get: F/C Draymond Green, G De'Anthony Melton

Warriors get: G Anfernee Simons, BOS 2026 first-round pick

“Draymond Green is eternally beloved in the Bay Area, but his relationship with Steve Kerr and the Warriors organization has been on the rocks for a while. That's not to say either side wants to break up, but Green's on-court value no longer compensates for his blustering, headache-inducing antics. Boston could use a proper defensive anchor in the frontcourt, and Green's $27.6 million player option means this is only a 1.5-year commitment for Boston, max. In today's era of bloated contracts, Green's is hardly a catastrophic risk…If there are two things that can bring the best out of Draymond at this point in his career, it's joining fellow basketball psycho (complimentary) Joe Mazzulla and competing for a title on a team with an actual chance of reaching the mountaintop,” Kline wrote.

So far this season, Green is averaging 8.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 0.9 assists in 26.7 minutes per game. While his offensive stats aren’t amazing, his defense is what the Celtics really want. He’s a nine-time All-Defensive player, and a former Defensive Player of the Year. He’d anchor the frontcourt defense, which has been a little shoddy this season.

This may be a trade the C’s might want to consider. He’d upgrade the defense, and could them a good chance at winning it all.
