Pro Football Hall-of-Famer delivers bold statement on ex-Colorado Buffaloes hero Shedeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders turned heads at the Browns’ rookie minicamp, but Cleveland is still projected to start Kenny Pickett at quarterback this upcoming season. Despite the Colorado football legend’s current spot in Cleveland’s depth chart, Sanders has received support from many former NFL stars, fans, and analysts.

After leading the NCAA in completion rate (74.0%) during his senior year and finishing top-eight in Heisman voting, Sanders took a shocking slide to the fifth round in this year’s draft. The Browns eventually snagged the reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year with the No. 144 pick.

Hall-of-Fame quarterback Kurt Warner, often regarded as the best undrafted player ever, recently commented on Sanders’ fascinating potential.

“My evaluation was the most accurate quarterback in this draft,” Warner said. “When he sets his feet, when he’s comfortable in the pocket, and he delivers the football, the ball goes where he wants it to go. This was a quarterback that was asked to have to win football games for his team, I don’t think that can be overstated … I think there was a lot to like about Shedeur Sanders.

“If you give him a good offensive line, does he get more comfortable? If he’s more comfortable, does he make more decisions on time and use that accuracy? Does that play to his favor at the NFL level … I really like Shedeur. He wasn’t a fifth-round prospect, in my opinion. I’m going solely off of tape, I thought he put some really good things on tape. I’m excited to see how this Cleveland quarterback room plays out.”

Sanders displayed undeniable accuracy and leadership with the Buffaloes, helping them to a 9-4 overall record (7-2 in conference) with a whopping 4,134 passing yards. Given his encouraging minicamp reports, Sanders could prove his doubters wrong with a rookie year to remember.

If Warner could turn an undrafted start into a Hall-of-Fame finish, Sanders can find a way to fulfill at least some of the potential he flashed at Colorado.
