Why Meghan Markle Is the “Happiest” She’s Ever Been in Marriage With Prince Harry

Prince Harry is looking at his life in the U.K. in the rearview mirror.

After losing his latest appeal to dismiss the U.K. government’s prior decision against his security personnel, the Duke of Sussex explained why he doesn’t see himself visiting with his wife Meghan Markle and their children Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, in the near future.

“I can’t see a world where I would be bringing my wife and kids back to the U.K. at this point,” Harry, 40, told the BBC in an interview from California May 2, hours after the ruling. “And the things that they’re going to miss is well, everything. I love my country. I always have, despite what some people in that country have done.”

“I miss the U.K.,” Harry emphasized. “I miss parts of the U.K. of course I do. And I think that it’s quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”

The Spare author and Meghan, 42, announced they were stepping away from duties as senior royals in 2020, moving with then-toddler Archie to California, where the family of four now live. Since then, Harry has been battling to retain his security detail, which was stripped amid his departure as a working royal.

But beyond that legal fight. in the last five years, Harry’s relationship with his father King Charles III and brother Prince William have become publicly strained.

Specifically, he credited the security concerns as why Charles “won't speak” to him.

“A lot of control and ability in my father’s hands,” Harry noted. “Also, that this whole thing could be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by aside allowing the experts what is necessary.”

However, a Palace spokesperson disputed Harry’s claims. “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts,” the statement to E! News said, “with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.”

Still, despite the riffs and changes in his family’s dynamic, Harry believes in reconciliation—especially as his father Charles continues with his cancer battle.

“I would love reconciliation with my family,” he told the BBC. “I will always. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. I don’t know how much time my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”

“It would be nice to have the reconciliation part now,” he said. “If they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them.”
