Prince Harry's Invitation to Stay at Buckingham Palace “Withdrawn”

Prince Harry Not Bringing His, Meghan Markle’s Kids Archie and Lilibet to Visit U.K.

Prince Harry’s journey home has taken another unexpected turn.

A rep for the Duke of Sussex, set to visit the United Kingdom right as a verdict in his case against publishers of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday newspapers is made on July 7, confirmed that Harry’s initial invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace has been rescinded.

"I am aware of multiple briefings from Buckingham Palace last week suggesting that the Duke had not accepted the offer of accommodation at a Royal Residence,"  the representative for Harry—who is making the trip without wife Meghan Markle and their kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet—said in a statement obtained by People July 6. "Following RAVEC’s decision not to provide security for his family, the Duke spent last week making alternative security arrangements. Once those arrangements were in place, he was able to formally accept the offer of accommodation for himself over the weekend."

The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) denied official taxpayer-funded security for Harry and his family, presumably leading to the decision for him to travel solo.

"It is therefore disappointing that the offer has now been withdrawn, with Tuesday’s judgment in the Associated Newspapers Limited case cited as the reason,” the statement continued. “Buckingham Palace has, however, been aware of that judgment since last Thursday. It is therefore unclear why, having formally accepted the accommodation offer, it has now been withdrawn at the last moment.”

Harry is visiting England to attend an event for The Invictus Games Foundation, an organization he founded in 2014 to provide support to international wounded, injured and sick servicemembers.

Days before he was expected to bring Meghan, as well as their children on the family’s first visit to the United Kingdom in four years, it was announced he’d be visiting his home country alone.

Just last year, Harry shared insight into why he wouldn’t bring his wife and children back to England anytime soon, especially considering the government’s decision to cut his security protection.

“I can’t see a world where I would be bringing my wife and kids back to the U.K. at this point,” he told the BBC in a May 2025 interview, shortly after he lost his appeal to restore his security access. “And the things that they’re going to miss is well, everything. I love my country. I always have, despite what some people in that country have done.”
