THE SPORTING NEWS PRESEASON HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL MIDWEST TOP 25
No. 15: Minnetonka (Minnesota)
Caleb Francois is one of the top running backs in the state, and he will be counted on to lead the way for the Skippers, who went 9-4 a season ago. Minnetonka fell to Maple Grove in the postseason, but also return quarterback Caden Gutzmer.
No. 14: Maple Grove (Minnesota)
The defending Class 6A state champions went 13-0 last year after winning seven games the season before. The Crimson take on Stillwater to begin the season on August 28.
No. 13: Bennington (Nebraska)
The Badgers have themselves set for a strong season, as they should be unbeaten going into an October collision with Omaha Skutt that could be one for the ages. Last year, Skutt got the better of Bennington in two matchups, including a loss in the Class B title game that ended a run of three straight state titles.
No. 12: Iowa City Liberty (Iowa)
Many might have expected the Lightning to continue to struggle in Class 5A after a successful 4A run. But that was not the case, as former NFL tight end Scott Chandler had Iowa City Liberty ready. They return Reece Rettig from a run to the state semifinals a year ago.
No. 11 St. Thomas Aquinas (Kansas)
After winning Class 4A gold in 2023 with a 35-7 victory over Andover Central, St. Thomas Aquinas moved up to the 5A ranks and won another title. Last year, they downed Hays in the finals, 35-13.
