Preseason doubts vanish as White Sox net a perfect midpoint grade

The Chicago White Sox have been a fun story to follow this year. After years of struggles, this team has seemingly come out of nowhere this season.

The signing of Munetaka Murakami has paid off, but he's not the sole reason the White Sox are doing so well. Especially since he has been on the IL for over a month now with his Grade 2 hamstring strain.

Others have stepped up, like Colson Montgomery, Jacob Gonzalez, Miguel Vargas, and Chase Meidroth. All four have been offensive powerhouses with their big bopper down with an injury.

Pitching is also looking the part as Davis Martin has really stepped up as an ace for this club, while the bullpen has really worked well, shutting the door in the ninth during close games.

Going into Wednesday's games, they hold a one-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the division, and with this, Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly gives the White Sox one of two A+ grades in his midterm progress report.

"Two years after losing a staggering 121 games, the White Sox are in first place. You almost don't need any additional context for this season to have been overwhelmingly successful for general manager Chris Getz and manager Will Venable... Even beyond Murakami, Davis Martin has been great at the top of the rotation, while there's reason to think that Chase Meidroth, Colson Montgomery, Miguel Vargas, Tristan Peters and Kyle Teel could all be long-term pieces on the South Side."

This team has gone above and beyond this year, even if they start to falter during the second half of the season. They have a great foundation that is set, and they have something to build upon after this season comes to a close.
