Newcastle United travel to the Vitality Stadium on Sunday to build on their last Premier League win and shrug off the Champions League defeat to Barcelona.
Eddie Howe’s side are currently sitting 13th in the table with one win, two draw and one defeat from their opening four games.
The Magpies’ only league victory came against Wolverhampton Wanderers where debutant Nick Woltemade scored the settling goal in a 1-0 win.
However, that was followed by a 2-1 home defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League, courtesy of a Marcus Rashford brace.
The Magpies form of late has been a point of concern for their fans. Eddie Howe’s side began the campaign with a three-game winless run, extending a barren stretch to 11 matches across league, preseason and cup fixtures before breaking it against Wolves.
In contrast, high-flying Bournemouth sit fifth after three wins in four games, including victories over Tottenham and Brighton.
Eddie Howe’s history and Chris Sutton’s prediction for Newcastle United's match
For Eddie Howe, the clash at Vitality Stadium would offer him chance to remove unwanted stat in front of his name.
The Newcastle manager has failed to win in three previous visits to the Boscombe since leaving Bournemouth in 2020.
Amersham's native last win against the Cherries came in December 2022, where the Tyneside registered a 1-0 EFL Cup win but in league victories have been elusive.
Newcastle’s last victory at the Vitality Stadium came in July 2020 when they defeated Bournemouth 4-1 and that result also stands as their most recent Premier League win over the Cherries, and that day Eddie Howe was still in charge of the south coast club.
The two sides last met in the league with painful memories for Newcastle supporters.
That match saw, Justin Kluivert scoring a hat trick and registering an assist in Bournemouth’s 4-1 win at St James’ Park which snapped a nine-game winning run for the Magpies.
BBC pundit Chris Sutton believes the struggles could continue.
“This is tough because you could make an argument for every outcome, but I'm going to back Bournemouth,” Sutton said [via BBC]

“I've been impressed by the Cherries so far this season in defense and attack and, although Newcastle beat Wolves last time out, they haven't really got going yet.”
“Former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is yet to win at the Vitality Stadium in three visits with Newcastle, and I think he's going to have to wait a little longer for his first success.”
He predicted Bournemouth to win 2-1 against Newcastle.
